It is known as ගම්පහ දිස්ත්රික්කය (gampaha distrikkaya) in Sinhala and கம்பஹா மாவட்டம் (Kampaka Māvaṭṭam) in Tamil.

History

The history of Gampaha District is deeply connected to the kings and kingdoms of Sri Lanka. In ancient times, parts of the district were under the rule of various local kings. The area was known for its lush forests and was often a retreat for royals.
