GCE O/L Subject selection guide would help you to have a look in a nutshell. The GCE O/L (General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level) examination in Sri Lanka consists of 9 subjects, divided into mandatory syllabuses and optional (basket) syllabuses.

Students are required to select 6 mandatory subjects, which include core subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, and History. In addition, students can choose 3 optional subjects from a wide range of options. These optional subjects are grouped into three categories—Category I, Category II, and Category III—allowing students to tailor their subject choices based on their interests and future career plans.
